New Fortune Theatre

Having a hearing problem I sat in the front row. Thankfully the weather was great. I could easily hear all conversations and had the added enjoyment of having significant head movement that only a stage allowed. I immediately knew I was not in a film theatre. During the play I was watching I could contemplate the stars which ended when the moon rose behind the stage. Great nights entertainment. Parking was ample and the open access appeared wheelchair accessible. The refreshments at the front was amateurish but satisfactory. You could take alcohol into the venue, I have discovered a wonderful building and entertainment centre thank you. Mick Hadley.

Shakespearean play, well attended and directed.

Gorgeous theatre and space. The peafowls who live there supply plenty of entertainment, but if that isn't what you're looking for try coming to see one of the Shakespeare readings!

What an incredible theatre space! The perfect venue for any type of theatre, whether that's Shakespeare, musical you name it!

The New Fortune is an open air performance theatre space. It's the only one in the southern hemisphere based on the Globe theatre in London. It's a magical space to perform in, especially Shakespeare and it comes with a set of peacocks who roam the space too.

Based on the layout of the original Fortune Playhouse (London, c. 1600), the New Fortune Theatre is a fascinating venue for reproducing Shakespearean-era plays.Located within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education, the theatre makes a unique setting for dance, drama and music. The Theatre is most suited to daylight performances at weekends although looks amazing lit up at night.The theatre can seat up to 340 patrons on three levels around the stage.The Centre for the History of Emotions locates significant research around the New Fortune Theatre.
